My favorite of the Show Gardens is the L’Occitaine Garden, inspired by the landscape of Provence, elegantly recreating Olivier Baussan’s vision of 30 years ago that inspired him to create L’Occitaine. The garden has all five senses covered. Sparkling Verbena provides the uplifting scent of summer, whilst Rich Almonds are grown to provides the taste temptation. Precious Immortalle is grown as the ‘elixir of youth’ for the skin of the Mediterranean women. The beautiful hues of Provencal Pink Peonies are a sight for sore eyes, whilst Provencal L’Occitaine Lavender provides the sound of pure tranquility, ready to create just a moment of calm with its relaxing scent.

Looking at the Small Gardens, I am drawn to the Christian before Dior courtyard garden. Inspired by the Pool Garden at Les Rhumbs, Dior’s childhood home in Normandy, the garden “reflects Dior’s love of flowers and design and the influence these were to have on his couture collections and perfumes” explains the garden designers. The garden is highly scented, and includes reproductions of the pergola, ornamental pool and garden furniture designed by the 15 year-old Dior. A Christian Dior jacket is draped across the stunning white bench; complete with his favourite flower, lily of the valley, in the button hole.

Back at home I have pledged to add more scent filled plants to enjoy on a balmy summer’s evening. What better way to unwind than to relax in our white outdoor chairs in the warm sunshine, with the glorious floral summer scents all around you?
