Could the credit crunch be a blessing in disguise? We are now in a situation which has never been faced before by the Western World and we are being forced to change. Perhaps in the future we will look back and realise how fundamentally flawed our Capitalist ways were.
A stock market that encourages companies to grow as quickly as possible, gaining the largest amount of profit to increase the share price, is one of the main problems that we face. If stocks and shares were not able to be bought and sold instantly, but had to be bought and kept for a minimum period of around 3-6 months, the gambling den known as the stock exchange would end as we know it. Companies could then grow more organically and not be looking for fast growth to improve their stock price.
What an effect this would have on the way companies are run! The market would be much less volatile. Longer term planning would be far easier and a steady growth would be far more attainable.
