Lets start by looking at the origins of ‘New England Style’. The style originates from New England, a North East Region of the United States whose settlers arrived mainly from the UK in the 17th Century. The majority of the early settlers were Puritans who favoured a lifestyle of hard work and simplicity, uncomplicated people who avoided ostentation is all aspects of their life. Many of the early settlers hailed from coastal areas such as the West Country and Eastern England, used to a simple life of farming and fishing, with simple requirements.

With this in mind, lets look at a room as a blank canvas.  The simplest of New England Interior Style begins with white painted walls, and white painted woodwork.

Coastal Style Living from Ideal Home

Coastal homes make the most of their stunning views, often having vast windows or french doors causing the outdoors to feel like an extension of the inside space, and allowing light to flood into the room.

So what sort of  things do you need to make your baby’s first room a safe haven and the best sleeping environment?

Ensure your child’s cot/crib conforms to all of the guidelines for safety and that you have an excellent, stable mattress. Stick to softer pastel colours – blues, greens, pinks and yellows. Almost any colour that suits you is fine, despite the fact that some, such as greens and blues, are more restful. Your infant’s bed should be unobstructed from covers, cushions or covers, so that his or her face is always clear at all times and there is no threat of obstructing their breathing. You might like to have a smallish foam wedge that’s placed to help keep the baby from rolling on their stomach. It’s also smart to keep stuffed animals or similar toys away from the baby’s crib till the new born’s older.
