It is great having a bookcase with a drawer at the top for all of those things you want to keep but hide away. It is also suitable for halls where there is not enough room for a hall table and with the drawer at the top it is ideal for storing car keys etc.  The shelves can be used to store magazines below. The shelves are screwed in down the sides and along the back with a supporting wooded detail running along the front for extra strength, so you can load the shelves with heavy books and the shelves wont bow.

We looked around the internet for inspiration, but having other items of New England Lifestyles white furniture at home it seemed fitting to transform another room into a tranquil white space.

So we painted our walls with Dulux Brilliant White Matt Emulsion and found that our north facing front room became lighter and more homely. The new oak flooring gave the room a natural feel and warmth, complimenting the crisp white walls.  We chose a modern style sofa from Ikea in a natural stone shade and accessorised it with New England Style cushions.

The New England TV Cabinet was very appealing with its white shaker style table legs and tongue and groove detailing.  It’s a great solution to hide away the sky box and all the wires behind the pull down door.

However, with two young children at home we needed as much toy storage as possible so we thought that a White Rhode Island Dresser Base could be a good solution creating an excellent solution with it’s double cupboard on the left for toy’s in plastic storage crates, and the sky box, blue ray player and Wii console in the single cupboard on the right. This fulfilled our requirements were met!  Nigel from our warehouse was happy to make two small holes in the back of the dresser base for the plug’s to go through but that was it!  Our TV is now up high enough to be out of little sticky fingers way but at the optimum height for comfortable viewing.

The dining room was my challenge. Downstairs, in the middle of my Victorian end of terrace home, it felt like a corridor between my lounge and kitchen. I wanted to give the room purpose and make the most of the light coming from the west facing window banishing those gloomy mornings.

So having worked for New England Lifestyle for a number of years I knew exactly where I wanted to start, with a white Dresser. I was immediately drawn to the Rhode Island Dresser for its clean lines and functional storage. It would sit perfectly against the wall leading into the Kitchen. At last I could display my crockery, dust free in the glass fronted cupboards, and I could hide the many Kitchen gadgets that I have accumulated over the years, in the white dresser base, freeing up valuable space in my Kitchen cupboards.

In January the Burlington Dining Table 4ft x 3ft was added to the range. As soon as I saw one in the showroom I knew it would look great next to my white painted Rhode Island Dresser. I really love the styling of the white painted turned leg against the solid oak top. The storage drawer beneath would make a great home for my cutlery, freeing up another of my Kitchen drawers!

Naturally, I had to have a set of the classic cross back white dining chairs Dining Chairs to go with the new table. The Newport White Dining chairs are made of solid oak and are painted in the same shade of satin white as the Burlington Dining Table. My gloomy dining room/corridor now has a purpose and is the talking point whenever visitors call in.

I used to have a boat which I kept it at Littlehampton Marina and on a good day I would make the journey by boat around Selsey Bill and on to Chichester harbour. I would anchor my boat and wade to shore with a pick nick and spend the day sun bathing or walk over the dunes.

West Wittering always reminds me of a New England place’s like Cape Cod or Martha’s Vin Yard. I feel so grateful to live in such a beautiful part of this country with so many amazing places to visit. A lot of my inspiration for New England Lifestyle and white furniture comes from places like East Head beach with the faded beach huts and weathered wood paths and breakwaters.

We have always painted our bedrooms white purely because its fresh and classic. Shelving and storage is always the problem particularly in children’s bedrooms so finding the right piece of white bedroom furniture especially when you don’t have much space is crucial. I cannot tell you how harrowing it has been to do this, finding something that wasn’t too young, too old, had plenty of storage and that would last!!!

We found it!!! I have been working here at New England Lifestyle for a little while and it was one Saturday when we had a lovely customer came into the showroom looking for the same thing as me.
