Why West Sussex?

My parents built a holiday home in Elmer, West Sussex when I was conceived and the house was just one house back from the beach. Elmer is known as Elmer Sands, as the beach in the summer becomes a very beautiful white sandy beach ideal for children to play on.

As a family we spent every weekend and every school holiday there from Easter through until the end of September, and my father would take two weeks off in the summer and come and join us. As a child I always remember the times spent in Elmer much more than the times spent at home in Weybridge, Surrey. My parents sold the house when I was 14, but then retired down to Aldwick when I was 21. I have had contact with West Sussex for the whole of my life. When I decided to move out of London I ended up buying the house right on the beach in Elmer in front of the house my parents built.

West Sussex is a great county. It has some of the best beaches in the country – such as East Head at West Wittering. The historic city of Chichester with its beautiful cathedral and great shops and restaurants, and of course Chichester Harbour for boating and picnicking. We have the best of both worlds; the pleasure of living by the sea with beautiful countryside just a few minutes away in the form of the South Downs. My children in particular love going to the Trundle and being able to run wild across the open countryside. We have the famous sporting events at Goodwood including the horse racing of Glorious Goodwood, the Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Revival Meeting at the motor circuit.

It is also great to enjoy the benefits of the beaches and countryside, but still be only 60 miles from London.

My interest in design and beach style furniture was borne through my life long enjoyment of the beach and surrounding area, inspired by beach huts and traditional Sussex barns.

Make a Weekend of it!

Quite a number of our customers from all different parts of the country travel down to visit our showroom in Yapton, West Sussex. Some have new build houses that they are completing, or holiday homes, and they are looking to furnish the whole house or apartment with our furniture. They often spend several hours in our showroom, and ask us to recommend a hotel or bed and breakfast to make a weekend or midweek break out of their visit.

We can suggest local hotels such as the Goodwood Park Hotel situated in the beautiful 12,000 acre Goodwood Estate with two 18 hole golf courses, and a superb health spa. Combine your visit with the famous horse racing at Glorious Goodwood, or even the Festival of Speed at the Goodwood motor racing circuit.

The Royal Oak at Lavant is very well known locally for its excellent cuisine, and was voted Les Routier Inn of the Year. Again it is set in the beautiful Goodwood countryside, and with six individually styled rooms it is a great choice for a night away.

The Hilton Avisford Park Hotel is only five minutes from our showroom, set in 89 acre grounds with an 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, croquet lawn and indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

The historic towns of Chichester with its impressive cathedral, and Arundel with its Castle are both within fifteen minutes, and provide great shopping and places to eat and drink. The picturesque beach and sand dunes and East Head, West Wittering is only a short drive away, and the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine.

If you’re looking to travel further afield, we can also recommend one of the finest English castle wedding venues, Rowton Castle in Shrewsbury. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be getting married to stay there, it makes for a lovely romantic break away as well.

We are always happy to help with your travel arrangements, or provide suggestions for any further requirements you may have. Spending a little time in the area allows you to spend as much time as you need to look around the showroom and maybe take in two visits, so that you can go away and think about what you have seen and come back the following day to place your order. Directions to New England Lifestyle

Choosing your furniture can be a big decision, and we receive many visitors from all over the country wanting to see and touch before they buy. One of the most common questions we are asked is therefore “Where are you?” So here are some directions.

The easiest way to find us, no matter which direction you are travelling in is to head down from the A27. Take the B2132 towards to Yapton; which is the turning by the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel, Arundel and Oaks Restaurant with its distinctive yellow sign. Follow the B2132 heading straight over the mini roundabout and continuing over the railway crossing. Continue straight on, passing Ford Lane on your left. Around the next corner you will see a blue sign for Orchard Business Park on your left hand side; turn into the drive way and New England Lifestyle is straight in front of you.
