Coastal Blue Interior, Ideal Home Magazine June 2010

The June 2010 issue of Ideal Home Magazine features a focus on decorating ideas using a coastal blue colour scheme.

As the nautical look appears on the catwalk this summer with style’s such as Gaultier’s trademark sailor chic and Chanel’s 2010 Resort collection, it is no wonder that the style filters through into our homes.

Ideas include pretty styling using french inspired furniture and mirrored details, or an air of cool sophistication by re-creating the classic Ralph Lauren house-in-the-hamptons look.

In the look pictured right, the designers use fresh coastal blues in moderation as an accent colour teamed with a white background and using natural materials. Accents of coastal blue to ‘frame’ and define the seating area, and are a great way to highlight your favourite feature of the room.

The article continues to feature a bright dining room with white dining table and chairs, and white console table.  Sophie recommends giving definition to a white on white scheme by using a strong shade on a feature wall. Continuing the Eastern inspiried theme, she chose a deep plum for the feature wall, and repeated the colour in the accessories. White painted floorboards keep the room looking fresh and simple and crystal vases help break up and distribute light.
